Day 1: Arrival at the airport
Upon arrival, you will be received by Love Uganda Safaris representative who will then lead you to the hotel in Kigali town.
Rest, refresh and lunch will be served thereafter. Take a city tour where you will have a chance to stop at Kigali genocide memorial site and pay last respect to over 800,000 Rwandese who are buried at this site.
Dinner and overnight stay in Kigali city.
Day 2: Transfer from Kigali – Volcanoes National park (Parc National Des Volcans).
In the morning after breakfast, opt for another city tour to explore more interesting sites, including the national museum, the presidential palace, craft markets and learn about the culture of the Kigali natives, etc. After lunch, enjoy a scenic drive to the Volcanoes national park, home to the endangered mountain gorillas.
Spend the evening at Iby’wachu Cultural Village and learn more about the Banyarwanda cultural practices and their tradition in this region. The cultural encounter will give you a rare opportunity to interact with the local people in their natural environment, with the taste of a unique culture and traditions. After this cultural refreshment and entertainment, retire back to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National park
Spend a day with the endangered mountain gorillas in their natural habitat. Take a hike through the green landscape and the hills of the Virunga volcanoes until you come across these shy humble apes. Spend some time with these amazing creatures while the guide avails explanation about their lifestyle, families and the behaviors. The average time allowed to stay with mountain gorillas is strictly 1 hour after meeting them; watch them as they feed, play and take care of the young ones.
Return to the lodge after the encounter and spend the evening resting and memorizing; Dinner will be served at the lodge and overnight stay.
Day 4: Transfer from Volcanoes national park – Akagera National Park.
On the fourth day of this Rwanda Classic Wildlife Safari, drive to Akagera National Park and arrive in the afternoon. Proceed to Lake Ihema for a soothing boat cruise with its banks filled with countless populations of both aquatic and terrestrial animal species which include among others the hippos, buffaloes, and the Nile crocodiles plus a wide range of bird species that dwell within the swampy vegetation and the opportunity to encounter the Rwanda’s second largest lake. Retire from dinner and overnight thereafter.
Day 5: Transfer from Akagera national park – Nyungwe Forest National Park.
Have breakfast and thereafter head out for morning game drive to get a close encounter with amazing wildlife, including Zebras, myriad species of antelopes and Giraffes. You will then drive out of the park and have an enroute stop in Kigali for lunch. Continue to Nyungwe forest and arrive in the evening. Nyungwe national park is home to a great deal of primate species, including chimpanzees, Red tailed monkeys, white and red colobus monkeys, etc.
Day 6: Chimpanzee trekking in Nyungwe Forest National Park.
After breakfast, transfer to the park headquarters for briefing before embarking on chimpanzee trekking; Nyungwe Forest National park is an ideal destination for primate lovers, sheltering over 13 different species of primates.
You will be divided in groups of 8 people and by exactly 8:00 am, you set off for this fascinating adventure led by the ranger guide through the beautiful forest trail in search of chimpanzees. Along the trails, listen to the nice melodies by different bird species housed in the forest and you will also have chance to enjoy the views of other primates like Grey-cheeked mangabeys and Colubus monkeys.
The activity takes between 2-6 hours but experienced guides will make sure that they take you where to see the primates as fast as possible. Face to face encounter with the chimpanzees is very amazing because you will observe them play, feed and rest. After this worthwhile experience, retreat back to the lodge for lunch and later head out for an adventurous canopy walk to see the beautiful twin lakes as well as various bird species that inhabit this forest. In the evening, retire at the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 7: Transfer back to Kigali. Departure
This last day of the 7 days Rwanda Classic Wildlife Safari day will depend on the time of the flight; you will first have breakfast and then head to Kigali Airport, either be dropped at the lodge, or to the airport for departure.
